Museum Tower is a 43-story structure with 31 residential floors over the existing Mint Museum in downtown Charlotte, NC. The Owner, Childers Klein Properties, the design goal was a contemporary style of architecture that would complement the existing Mint Museum and its surroundings would make this city block an iconic centerpiece of downtown Charlotte. Large sweeping, dramatic views of the city are an important component in the overall design of the building. Each apartment celebrates Charlotte’s skyline with a floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the urban center. The roof top club room includes a gaming area and lounge with panoramic views, and glass walls which open onto the amenity decks’s pool and pool bar pavilion. The operable glass transitions allow exterior and interior spaces to blend and create an expansive feeling throughout. Because the new residential tower was constructed over the existing, occupied, and functioning Mint Museum, the use of exterior scaffolding was not an option. Instead the RJTR team designed the building so it could be built from the inside out using an interior glazed window system and metal panels.
RJTR provided architectural services and RD
Jones & Associates provided Interior Design services.
The project is expected to obtain LEED Silver certifi cation.
